The tree is found in Burma and southwards throughout Western Malaysia, it is probably of Southern Asian origin. It is a tall tree bearing simple ovate leaves about 10-12 cm long. Young leaves are aromatic due to the presence of volatile oils. Its aromatics leaves are used as a vegetable. The young leaves are commonly used as food. Pieces of meat can be boiled with the leaves and eaten together. The bark, roots and the leaves are used as an itch remedy by the Malays.
