Appeltaart/Apple PieWith the use of this dried mix you can bake a delicious apple pie. Some of the ingredients of this pie are wheat flour, sugar and salt. All you need to add is 7 oz/200 grams of butter, 5 oz/160 grams of soft white sugar, an egg, salt and the rasped rind of half a lemon. For the filling you will need 2.2 lbs/1 kilo of tart apples (Macintosh), 2 oz/50 grams of currants and/or raisins, 2 oz/50 grams of sugar, cinnamon and 2 oz/50 grams of custard.

Preparation:

  • Sieve the flour into a mixing bowl and cut the (hard) butter into small pieces.
  • Add to the flour the butter, soft sugar, ¾ of the egg, the lemon rind and a pinch of salt.
  • Mix it by hand until the dough no longer sticks to the bowl.
  • Roll the dough into a .2”/50 mm thick round sheet.
  • Line the bottom and sides of a greased pan 9-10”/20-25 cm diameter with the dough (hold back some of the dough to use for the lattice top).
  • Mix the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, raisins and/or currants and custard and pour everything into the dough shell.
  • Roll the remaining dough into long thin strips and use those to make the lattice-work top of the pie.
  • Brush the lattice with the left over beaten egg.
  • Bake the pie for approximately 75 minutes at 350F/175C.Preheat the oven to 375F/190C.
